MYP: 6-9

Fraser Valley School is a candidate school* for the MYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students. * Only schools authorized by the Ib Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes visit http://www.ibo.org

Fraser Valley School middle school students (Grade 6-9) extend their learning from IB PYP into intentionally planned inquiry based MYP units using the British Columbia Curriculum. Students are supported as they transition to their middle years with a homeroom teacher for social-emotional learning as they move into subject specific classes. Students have Mathematics and English Language Arts five days per week. Individuals and Societies (Social Studies), Science, Design (Applied Design and Skills Technology), French Language Acquisition (Core French), Physical Health Education and Arts are taken three periods per week.

All MYP students also take part in ‘Flex Fridays’ where on Friday afternoons students work with the B.C Career Curriculum to develop leadership and life skills for the future. Some Flex Friday activities include: leading younger students, outdoor education, passion projects (such as cooking, coding, building robots or gardening), intramural sports, local community service and team-building. These activities allow middle school students to explore the unique phase in life where they begin to discover who they are, what their passions are and how they can take action in their school and community.
